The «Trade policy» problematics was established within the framework in the April conference in 2016. Its popularity in professional circles is increasing every year.
The COVID-19 pandemic also changed communication formats in 2020. The April conference is held remote mode. Many events of the conference due to the technical capabilities of connecting a large number of participants cannot be held in parallel during a short time, so they are distributed throughout April and May.
Our Special section on Trade policy will be held on May 26.
One of the key issues of our Special section this year was the issue of adapting the structure of multilateral trade regulation within the WTO to changes related to the active penetration of digital technologies in the socio-economic environment, and, first of all, in trade in goods and services. The effect of digitalization has increased due to movement and communication restrictions associated with COVID-19. Trading has almost completely switched to electronic form. At the same time, the regulation of this format of interaction between sellers and buyers is only at the stage of formation and there is still a lot of large-scale work to create optimal rules and regulations.
At the same time, the planned 12th Ministerial conference of the WTO (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan) has been postponed indefinitely, but this does not deny the need for discussions on the topic of reforming the organization in the new conditions of economic, political and technological development. One of the platforms for such discussions will be a session in the first half of our Special section devoted to scientific approaches to the construction of international trade regulation in the new economic conditions.
The second part of our Special section will discuss the report "Assessment of integration processes of the EEU in the field of trade-2020", prepared on a permanent annual basis by an international team of authors from scientific organizations of the EEU member States.
Representatives of leading scientific and expert organizations of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, the Institute of world economy (Kiel, Germany, Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel), Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada, Carleton University), the Institute of international trade (Bern, Switzerland, World Trade Institute University of Bern), the CAREC Institute (CAREC Institute, Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program), representatives of the WTO Secretariat and relevant departments of the Eurasian economic Commissio are invited to participate. Representatives of leading Universities, ministries and departments are expected to participate from the Russian side.
